Ford Park is a multi-purpose park, arena, exhibit hall, pavilion, midway, and baseball/softball fields located on I-10 South in Beaumont, Texas. The park opened in 2003 and is the home of the South Texas State Fair.
The Spindletop oilfield, discovered on a salt dome formation south of Beaumont in eastern Jefferson County on January 10, 1901, marked the birth of the modern petroleum industry. Through a self-guided tour, visitors to Gladys City experience 15 replica buildings filled with objects from the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries that depict life during the first Spindletop oil boom. From a saloon and post office to a general store and livery stable, visitors get a glimpse of what it might have been like to work and live in the historic Spindletop oilfield.
Established in 1969, the Babe Didrikson Zaharias Foundation was created to preserve and promote the legacy of Babe. It built the museum in 1976 and since then, has championed support for the woman athlete. Not only women golfers, but every woman's sport was considered when recognition was appropriate.
